What's in the Bible? (Vol. 10 Jesus is the Good News!) Review and Giveaway

We all know VeggieTales and its creator Phil Vischer (the voice of Bob the Tomato). Phil now brings us a new series called What’s In The Bible. When I first heard about it, I expected it to be a lot like VeggieTales in that it would tell stories to convey Bible messages. Boy was I wrong! It’s nothing like VeggieTales… except that each time Phil talks I can’t help but seeing Bob the Tomato in my mind.

We received Volume 10: Jesus is the Good News to review. The DVD has two separate segments, both of which are about 25 minutes long. Instead of cartoon stories being told, the Bible is actually discussed at a child’s level by Phil and a whole cast of sweet and funny puppet characters.
Check out the trailer below...

The first one, God’s Perfect Timing, is all about, you guessed it… God and His timing and how it’s perfect. They discuss the gap between the Old and New Testaments. Why is there a 400 year gap? What were they waiting on? The segments answers those questions and SO MANY MORE.

The second segment is entitled The Messiah Has Come! And is all about the life of Christ. The puppets and Phil talk about the synoptic Gospels, Christ’s life, burial and resurrection.

I was truly impressed with how they explained and taught their way through the Gospels. I cannot wait to get my hands on more of the What's In The Bible DVDS.

You may or may not know that I teach 3rd-5th grade girls every Wednesday night at church in a class called Mpact (formerly Missionettes). I have the privilege of spending three years with these ladies, teaching them about Jesus. We have 36 different units that we work out way through, one of them being The Life of Christ. Actually, we just finished up that one last week. Anyway, this DVD is PERFECT to go along with that unit and I’ll be sharing it with them tonight in class.

I looked and looked for “age recommendations” but haven’t found any. That’s probably because it’s good for all ages!

My two and three year olds didn’t sit still and watch the movie (when do they ever?) but they did wander in the room when any of the catchy songs started. My 12 year old kept craning her neck to see the movie while she was supposed to be doing schoolwork. I’m a thirty-something and I quite enjoyed it!

I suspect my girls tonight will enjoy it too but more importantly than just being a fun movie, it’s got biblical principles that are easily taught throughout. I say easily taught because you’re so entertained with the show that you don’t even realize you’re learning! Seriously, those catchy songs are good for more than just foot tapping!
The DVDs retail for $14.99 each (on sale for $9.97!) or you can purchase bundles at discounted prices. They are running a huge sale right now that includes free shipping in the US until December 18, 2014.
Some fun extras
  • Inside the DVD case is a family discussion guide to go along with the movie and cute little poster to color
