What I thought
My two older ones and I gathered around the computer to watch our first Christmas movie of the season and were not disappointed. Saving Christmas is a wonderful movie about family, tradition and most importantly, Christ.
I've had my doubts over the years of whether or not we should have a tree, put lights up on the garage, host (or attend) parties and even give gifts to the kids. I was conflicted by all the commercializing of Christmas. Was I feeding into it by purchasing gifts? Was I acting more like a pagan than a Christian at Christmas time? These questions and so much more are soundly answered in Saving Christmas. The movie is primarily about Kirk and his brother-in-law, who is having a hard time with Christmas.
He's convinced that parties are wrong. Trees are wrong. Nativities are wrong. Santa Clause is WRONG.
Kirk helps his brother see the biblical founding of each of these things. I know what you're thinking... um, Santa and Christmas trees aren't in the Bible. And you're right. BUT when you hear Kirk explain how these ideas did originate from God and His Word, well, what you've believed about them your entire life will be challenged.
I highly recommend this family film to anyone wanting to understand just a little bit more about why we do what we do at Christmas time.
