I think every parent wants their child to play an instrument or be musically inclined in some way. Often times we think little ones, three and four year olds, are just too small to start anything yet. KinderBach has provided an answer for those of us who want our young ones to play piano, may I introduce The KinderBach Online Piano Lesson Membership with Teacher Corner. This one-year, online membership is geared toward three to seven year olds and their parents. The price for The KinderBach Online Piano Lesson Membership with Teacher Corner is $95.88 for the year, which works out to about $7.99/month.
KinderBach is a keyboard based piano program that also incorporates rhythm instruments like cymbals and drums, along with voice. The program gives you all the tools you will need (instruments not included) to teach your little ones not only how to play, but also the mechanics and theory of music. You as the teacher don't have to worry about having any formal training in music. KinderBach gives you what you will need and shows you how to teach it!
The membership features six levels of piano education. I did the level one lessons with my two, almost three year old. He had a lot of fun watching the videos of Miss Karri and the keyboard characters. He would sing a long (or at least try to) and do the dances that go along with some of the songs. He would even request “my Dodi”. Dodi is one of the keyboard characters, he lives between two black keys on the keyboard and has some of his own coloring pages.
The Teacher Corner is where you find all the goodies that go along with each level.
- Lesson Plan Book
- Teacher Aid Book
- Teacher Guide
- Student Book
- Goal Book
- And Audio MP3s are all helpful additions to the videos for each lesson
All the books (teacher, student, lesson plan) are in PDF form so you can easily print only pages you want. Each Level contains 10 weeks of content. Two lessons a week is what is recommended. However, you could combine the two lessons into one weekly lesson and have almost an hour of learning time. I would only recommend this with older students. Typically, a single lesson will take about 20-30 minutes to complete. However, since I was working with a two year old (smile) our lessons lasted about 10 minutes.
The Teacher Book includes material lists, music development areas, music theory notes and instrument advice.
The Student Book includes all the manipulative like activity pages and color pages.
The Goal Books are basically certificates that you can put stickers on and hand to the child as a sign of achievement. Or, you can keep the pages together in a book, that way all the progress can be seen at once and can serve as a sign of where the child is for any future piano teachers.
The Goal Book includes recognition for completion of the following:
- Listening- ear training of pitch rhythm and dynamics
- Reading- visual recognition of pitch notes as well as reading while playing an instrument
- Rhythm- comprehension of the difference between rhythm and beat, recognition of rhythm notes and understanding beat value. Correct use and playing rhythm instruments, one of three instrument types in KinderBach
- Hand- also called technique, correct fingering and hand manipulation at the keyboard, another instrument type
- Singing- Vocalization of pitch and rhythm concepts. Voice is the third instrument used by KinderBach
- Performance- public demonstration of skill in each of the three instrument types
As you can see, the entire program is quite comprehensive! I had a lot of fun using KinderBach with my little one, I'm sure you will too!
