I am in dire need of some self-discipline so I have decided to take the challenges presented by Crystal Paine in her book 21 Days To A More Disciplined Life. Read more about why I took this challenge here.
Day 4- It seems Crystal and I have a lot in common. We both have realized at multiple points in our lives that we need to work on our personal habits. So, we charged in, banner drawn with the intent to change EVERY SINGLE habit at once. How well did that go? Not at all. I would do great for a few days but soon my old self would kick back in or something would come up and throw everything out of whack. Crystal makes this wise statement:
"It's better to focus on and master only three habits each year that actually stick, than to repeatedly try to develop 30 different habits all at the same time and end up overwhelmed, frustrated, and back to where you started."
When I was attempting those drastic changes, I was not forming a new habit. I have read and heard so many times that it takes doing something 21 times before a new habit is created. Charlotte Mason teaches that we should work on one habit for six weeks before moving onto the next. Yes, it seems like a long time but isn't it worth it if the habit sticks?
The book recommends making an exhaustive list of all the good habits I want to form, making the top three a priority and working on those one at a time. After you feel like you have mastered a new habit, get out your pen, cross it off and move onto the next one. Wow, lots of things came to mind when I read that. I have started my list but I have a feeling more items will be added to the list over the next couple of days.
Crystal's constant reminders to take things slow and give yourself grace are so encouraging. I'm so thankful for this book and the positive changes it is helping me make in my life.
Here's to a more disciplined self!!

Day 3 {the life hack}
Sounds like a great concept. Part of my issue has been not really knowing what habits I need to change to make the differences I need to make. Some of the things I know I need to change aren't even physically possible in this season of life, or on a consistent basis. But, maybe I need to read the book. ;) Thanks for posting!
