Still having thoughts from Sunday's sermon

My pastor has been doing a series on the Armor of God. This past Sunday morning he finished up the series and focused on Ephesians 6:18...

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

One of the points he kept bringing us back to was that no where in the Bible does it mention a silent prayer. There is no verse about someone bowing their head, closing their eyes and praying "in their head".

I have to admit, I'd never thought about that before. We pray out loud at meals of course and when I pray with the kids at night it is always aloud. My personal prayers aren't always outwardly spoken though, especially if I'm slacking and only offer a silent, eyes-closed feeble prayer of thanks and protection before drifting off to sleep.

However, if I get up in the morning (like my alarm says to) before the kids get up, my prayers are always out loud.

Another and maybe more pertinent point he made was that prayer is cerebral, spiritual and vocal. Let that sink in a moment...

I have been making a conscious effort to pray out loud each and every time I pray. It is so important not only for our children to see us praying but to hear us as well!

Are you a praying person? Do you pray out loud or silently?
