Veritas Press is a Classical Christian curriculum provider who also offers online education. When given a chance to review one of their online classes, we opted for Veritas Press Self-Paced Omnibus I. The new self-paced Omnibus I primary course is designed for ages 12 and up. Omnibus self-paced course retails for $295 for the first student and each sibling gets $100 off their tuition.
We received a full year’s access to the entire Omnibus I online course, which includes subjects like:
- Genesis
- Exodus
- Gilgamesh
- Hammurabi
- Samuel I & 2
- Kings I & 2
- Odyssey
- Oresteia
- Plutarch’s Lives
- Theban Trilogies
- Days of Socrates
- Early History of Rome
- Luke & Acts
- Aeneid
- The Twelve Caesars
- Julius Caesar
- Revelation
Each of the subjects includes multiple lessons. The lessons are comprised of art study, tours of actual places that events took place, world and American history taught by both Omnibus teachers and experts in each subject area, special dialectic lessons, interviews with experts, real testimonies, surveys from average people and lots more! All the material is taught with a biblical, Christian worldview.
During the review period, my freshman son and I went through the book of Genesis together. Each of the lessons lasts about an hour, so most of the time we had to split lessons up. Because of connection issues we kept experiencing, we had to use a desktop computer to watch and listen to the lessons. He and I sitting super close in front of a computer screen (and usually with two toddlers on my lap!) was quite a challenge some days J. But please don’t think that my own complicated ways subtracted in any way from the awesomeness of this program. When we did manage to sit down and watch the videos, it was great!
Last year in our homeschool, our history was focused on ancient world history, which included an extensive study of the Old Testament. We read the Bible, commentaries and other books along the way that helped us understand the times and ways of the Old Testament. I was blown away by the fact that even after all that studying, each of the Genesis lessons taught us something new. The dialectic lessons were especially neat and informative.
The lessons don’t stop with teaching the kids what the Bible says, it teaches them how to defend what they know and believe to be true. Not being easily confused by the words and questions of unbelievers and being able to defend our faith is such an important skill- even for kids, and Omnibus paves the way AND equips our young ones to do just that.
Oscar’s favorite part about the program were the “round table talks”. The talks involved two or more men of faith who each had slightly different (or vastly different) points of view or understanding of the Bible. The most significant of debates for him was the Literal 24-Hour Creation Talk. We are a young earth believing family and so the information presented wasn’t new but the way in which it was defended and explained was.

My bottom line
Omnibus I Primary is an amazing program. I cannot wait to work through the remainder of the books with my son. The price is a bit beyond our homeschool budget but if it fits into yours, I say go for it!! Thank you so much Veritas Press for this fantastic opportunity!!
